It is really sad to think of how many dogs are put to sleep because they are beaten, abused or simply unwanted., Including many dogs that make excellent pets and companions for someone. When you think of having a dog, why not consider one of these poor animals who are destined to die if no one saves.
Several dogs are mistreated by their owners for lack of care (do not get enough food or even water) or by simple neglect (being simply bound and thrown into a backyard and forgotten). These poor people are starving not only for essential food and water, but for the company as well. Sometimes, people involved in neighborhood notice these neglected animals and report the owners at the SPCA or other animal body.
In severe cases, the SPCA will take the animals away and try to reintegrate them into becoming adoptable. Sometimes animals can be saved in this way, but too often dogs are beyond help and are tragically put to sleep. The SPCA does not have funding as resources for these poor neglected creatures. They can only make a fraction of what really needs to be done to help these animals.
Dog rescue work in much the same way in that they attempt to rehabilitate the dogs to become adoptable and try to find homes for them, but they often breed specific. For example, there are rescue dogs that are specifically for Boxers or pit bulls or any other breeds.
A type of rescue dog that you may not know is for Greyhound dogs. Typically Greyhounds are bred for racing. When they get older and can not run as fast, or start losing races, these dogs are often discarded by owners because they are not profitable. A rescue dog adapted to the Greyhounds will take these animals in their care and try to find appropriate housing for them.
Other dogs rescue animals who have been abused and are slightly handicapped. The SPCA is often unable to find homes for these types of dogs, because most people do not want to bother caring for a pet that may need a little more care. Dog rescues will find homes for the disabled and animals. There was recently a case of a blind boxer who needed a home and a dog rescue center Boxer was able to place him with a loving family. If this family had not taken the dog, he may have been euthanized. Instead, he is able to live a good living with a family that has acquired a beautiful girlfriend.
If you are thinking of becoming a dog, you may want to check the dog rescue in your area. Often, you'll be able to get a breed of dog you want (for much less money than paying for a purebred puppy). You get a loving pet and you will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you've probably saved the life of a dog.
Choose the life of a dog beaten, abused or not desired. Check the dog rescue in your area and save a dog.
